40CrV structural alloy steel has excellent comprehensive mechanical properties and is suitable for manufacturing parts subjected to high and variable loads. Corresponding to grades such as US 6140 and German 42CrV6, 40CrV alloy steel exhibits high strength and yield point in the quenched and tempered (quenched and tempered) state, making it a medium-strength quenched and tempered steel with superior performance to 40Cr steel. Its carbon content is similar to that of 40Cr steel. However, 40CrV alloy steel has the disadvantages of being prone to temper brittleness and having poor weldability, making it suitable for parts operating at temperatures below 420°C.

40CrV alloy steel under GB/T 3077-1988 standard, exhibits excellent wear resistance and is capable of withstanding severe abrasive conditions. 40CrV is widely used in the manufacture of various high-load, critical parts, such as locomotive connecting rods, crankshafts, push rods, propellers, beams, bushing brackets, studs, and screws. 40CrV alloy steel is also used in the manufacture of non-carburized gears, various nitrided gears and pins, high-pressure boiler water pump shafts (less than 30mm in diameter), high-pressure cylinders, steel pipes, and bolts.

Common steel types:

Round Bars: Diameter ranging from 10 mm to 300 mm.
Flat Bars: Thickness from 5 mm to 50 mm, width from 20 mm to 200 mm.
Plates: Thickness from 10 mm to 100 mm, width up to 2000 mm.
Forged Parts: Custom dimensions based on design requirements, typically up to 500 mm in diameter or thickness.
Wire Rods: Diameter from 5.5 mm to 20 mm for spring and fastener production.

Chemical Composition of 40CrV Steel

The chemical composition of 40CrV steel is carefully controlled to ensure consistent performance.

Element C Si Mn Cr V P S
Content (%) 0.37-0.44 0.17-0.37 0.50-0.80 0.80-1.10 0.10-0.20 ≤0.035 ≤0.035

Mechanical Properties of 40CrV Alloy Steel

40CrV alloy steel exhibits impressive mechanical properties after heat treatment, making it suitable for demanding applications.

Property Tensile Strength (MPa) Yield Strength (MPa) Elongation (%) Hardness (HRC)
Value ≥980 ≥785 ≥10 28-32 (after tempering)

Equivalent Steel Grades of 40CrV

40CrV alloy steel has comparable grades in international standards, which can be used as alternatives depending on regional availability.
